How long is the barber program?
The Barber Stylist program is 1,000 clock hours. The program is designed to prepare students for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) examination and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed Class A Barber.
What will I learn in the program?
Students receive both classroom instruction and supervised practical training. The program provides the academic and hands-on skills needed to become employable in the profession as a licensed barber.
What is a Class A Barber license?
A Class A Barber license is issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and allows an individual to perform barbering services in the State of Texas.
What are the requirements to enroll in the barber program?
Applicants must meet the requirements established by the State of Texas and complete the admissions process with the school. Requirements include meeting minimum age requirements, providing proof of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and submitting all required enrollment documentation. Do I need any prior experience to enroll?
No prior experience is required. The program is designed to provide both academic instruction and practical training for individuals entering the profession.
Will I be prepared for the state licensing exam?
Yes. Upon successful completion of the Barber Stylist program, students will be eligible to take the TDLR state licensing examination.
What do I receive after completing the program?
Upon successful completion of the program, a diploma is awarded. Graduates who pass the state licensing exam will be qualified to work as a licensed barber in the State of Texas.
Do you offer a cosmetology to barber crossover program (300 hours)?
No. The Cosmetology Operator to Class A Barber 300-hour program is no longer available for new student enrollment. This program was discontinued in accordance with regulatory changes implemented by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
I am a licensed cosmetologist—can I still become a barber?
Yes. Licensed cosmetologists may still pursue a Class A Barber license; however, the previous 300-hour crossover program is no longer offered. Please contact the school directly so we can review your individual qualifications and explain the current requirements.
How long does it take to complete the program?
Full-time students may complete the program in approximately 8.5 months. Part-time students may complete the program in approximately 10.5 months.
Do you offer full-time and part-time schedules?
Yes. The school offers both full-time and part-time schedules. Please contact the admissions office for current availability and scheduling options.
When can I start the program?

Do you offer financial aid?
Mid Cities Barber College participates in federal financial aid programs for those who qualify. Please contact the admissions office for more information regarding eligibility and the application process.
Will I work on real clients?
Yes. Students receive supervised practical training that includes working on clients in a clinical setting as part of the program.
Do you assist with job placement?
The school provides guidance and resources to assist graduates in seeking employment; however, employment is not guaranteed.
